Police are searching for a man they believe held two people at gunpoint and raped a woman in her home near Collinsville.

Jerry D. Sutt, 50, of Madison is wanted on two counts of unlawful restraint and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault.

Police believe that Sutt entered the home of an acquaintance in rural Collinsville Wednesday while armed with a handgun. He bound the two occupants, and sexually assaulted one of them.

The woman was transported to a St. Louis area hospital for medical treatment, where she was treated and released.

Sutt has "a considerable criminal history," according to police, with previous arrests on charges of resisting police officers, aggravated battery, domestic battery, assault and burglary.

Police are searching for Sutt, who is considered armed and dangerous. He is described as 6 feet tall, approximately 200 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.

"He was armed with a firearm during this encounter and he knows we are looking for him," said Capt. Mike Dixon, of the Madison County Sheriff's Department. "We do not recommend anyone to approach him. If you see him, contact local law enforcement."

Anyone who knows of Sutt's whereabouts is asked to call the Madison County Sheriff's Department at 692-4433, the investigative division at 692-0871, or the anonymous tip line at 296-3000.

Madison County Circuit Court Judge James Hackett set Sutt's bail at $500,000.
