Sheppard captures another victory at Belle-Clair

News-DemocratSeptember 19, 2013

He's only 20, but Brandon Sheppard is enjoying all of his trips to Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville.

Sheppard's success at the track continued last Friday when he won the World of Outlaws Late Model Series "Photobilly 50" main event.

It was the third straight major Belle-Clair victory for the pride of New Berlin, following previous wins in the DIRTcar Summer Nationals and "Hell Tour" main events.

"We had an awesome car all night," Sheppard said on the World of Outlaws web site. "We got behind on the re-draw, but we made a few changes to the car before the feature and it was just good. I could run wherever I wanted to.

"I'm really good at rolling that cushion (at Belle-Clair), using the cushion to kind of get my momentum up and shoot me down the straightaway. But my car was good down on the bottom tonight too."

Shane Clanton was second and Rick Eckert was third. Shannon Babb placed fourth and Brian Shirley was fifth.

Sheppard picked up $10,500 for the win.

When the World of Outlaws Late Model Series moved to Federated Auto Parts Raceway in Pevely, Mo., last Saturday, it was Josh Richards taking the checkered flag.

The top five included second-place finisher Darrell Lanigan, followed by Billy Moyer, Shirley and Bobby Pierce.

Tri-City Speedway

Dave Armstrong took home $3,000 last Friday for winning the Street Stocks/UMP Factory Stocks main event at Tri-City Speedway's "Takin it to the Streets" night.

Tim Hancock was second and Dan Pilkington was third.

Joe Dresch won the UMP Modifieds feature and Aaron Heck won the UMP Pro Crate Late Models feature. Bartelso's Jon Ripperda won the UMP Sportsman main event and Jeremy Callahan won in Factory Stocks.

This week, Tri-City is hosting "Summit Modified Mania" Thursday through Saturday with $3,000 to win UMP Modifieds each night and $2,000 to win UMP Late Models.

The track is running full programs all three days, including $500 to win UMP Pro Crate Late Models on Saturday.

Highland Speedway

Rick Salter won the UMP Late Model feature last Saturday on "Championship Night" at Highland Speedway, while Dean Hoffman won the UMP Steve Schmitt Modifieds main event.

Highland Speedway season champs in the points race were Chad Zobrist in UMP Late Models and UMP Miller Lite Crates and Brian Bielong in UMP Steve Schmitt Modifieds.
