Burgard's Tavern in Freeburg was the site of a drug bust Thursday evening.
Four people were charged in connection with the bust after members of the St. Clair County Sheriff's Drug Tactical Unit made several purchases of illegal drugs over the course of a three month investigation, according to Sheriff's Lt. Kurt Eversman, supervisor of the Drug Tactical Unit.
Around 7:15 p.m. Thursday, members of the St. Clair County Sheriff/Belleville Police Special Response Team, the St. Clair County Sheriff Drug Tactical Unit, the Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southern Illinois and the Freeburg Police Department executed a search warrant in the tavern at 1 West High Street in Freeburg.
The St. Clair County State's Attorney on Friday charged:
Howard G. Bateman, 51, was charged with three counts.His bond was set at $40,000 and he remains in custody.
Cris J. Lang, 52, was charged with two counts of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school. His bond was set at $60,000 and he is not in custody.
John Schmidt, 53, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a subsequent offense. His bond was set at $20,000 and he is in custody.
Roderick J. Kapp, 57, was charged with permitting a building to be used for illegal activity. His bond was set at $10,000 and he is not in custody.
During a search of the property, evidence of illegal drugs was found.
