Metro-east bakery has new home

A metro-east custom-order bakery has a new home. You can now find Sweet Sinsation at 1624 W. Main St. in Belleville. The bakery has traditional baked goods, but specializes in diet sweets that are sugar and gluten free. Call them at 355-7966 to learn more.

A restaurant in Troy closed its doors. Callahan's Corner, 914 Edwardsville Road, closed sometime during the summer after about two-and-a-half years in business.

A downtown Belleville pizzeria with roots in Waterloo will open another location on the Belt Line in West Belleville.

Papa Vito's Pizza plans to expand into a building at 4205 North Belt West later next month. Manager Katie Geoppo said the West Belleville restaurant will have the same menu of pizza and pasta. It will be the restaurant's third locale, which originally was home to Ken's/Mazzio's Pizza before housing the Evergreen Chinese Restaurant and, most recently, Yamato Japanese Restaurant.

The first Papa Vito's has been operating in Waterloo since 1983. Geoppo said business has been strong since her family opened at 318 N. Washington St. in downtown Belleville in January 2011.

"We enjoy Belleville and we're very pleased to open another one," Geoppo said. "When we thought of another location, we thought about this location we think the west end is ready for a smaller version and family friendly restaurant. We're very excited about it."

A New Baden bowling alley reopened after undergoing remodeling. The Baden Bowl at 105 E. Illinois St. welcomed bowlers back last week. A grand re-opening event is from noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 5. Call 588-4182 to find out more.

A new boutique will open Oct. 1 in Lebanon. The store is Artemis at 208 B, St. Louis St., which specializes in vintage inspired clothing, jewelry, home decor, and small gift items. Its anchor store is in Spokane, Wash. Find out more at

Belleville native Brent Boyles and his brother-in-law Dave Hollenbeck are celebrating 25 years of business at their technology company, CompuType IT Solutions, at 4401 N. Belt West in Belleville.

And finally, congratulations and good luck to Brooke Hall, an employee of DQ Grill & Chill in Lebanon who was selected as one of DQ's best. She won an all-inclusive trip to Honolulu to compete against three other contestants from around the world.
