The Madison County Coroner's office has identified a 28-year-old Granite City woman killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash on Illinois 203 near Interstate 270.

Jessica M. Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash, which occurred just after 5 p.m. when her 2010 Nissan Altima, came up the ramp from eastbound Interstate 270 to Illinois 203.

A second vehicle driven by Douglas E. Turner of Granite City, a 2013 Dodge Durango, was traveling northbound on Illinois 203 when Gibson pulled off the ramp onto Illinois 203 in front of him.

Turner told police the Altima appeared so quickly he was unable to stop or slow down. His vehicle struck the Altima on the driver's side, according to Trooper Calvin Dye Jr., a spokesman for the Illinois State Police.

Turner and a young child in his vehicle were taken to Gateway Regional Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Illinois State Police are continuing their investigation into the crash.

Funeral arrangements for Gibson are pending at Irwin Chapel in Granite City.
