— Beltline Road has claimed its third pedestrian accident this year.

Collinsville police confirmed that a pickup truck making a right turn from Bridle Ridge Road onto Beltline Road struck a 52-year-old woman about 9:28 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by Madison County Coroner's Office deputies. Police did not identify the woman or the driver of the pickup truck, pending positive identification and notification of the victim's family.

Another pedestrian was struck by a car while walking along Beltline Road on Aug. 27. Eric Roby, 24, was injured but survived. He was cited for walking on a road and as a pedestrian under the influence of alcohol.

But 22-year-old Anthony Connors did not survive a hit-and-run accident in February while walking the same stretch of Beltline Road, from the edge of the business district into the curve going toward Illinois 157. Connors was walking home from work when he was struck and knocked into a ditch, where he was found three days later.

Collinsville police are investigating this latest incident with the Metro-East Crash Assistance Team.
