I would like to explain why I am a liberal. Liberals fought for women's suffrage as well as for their right to choose to abort, or not.
We fought for the civil rights of minorities, so they can live wherever they want, eat and shop wherever, to attend any school, to work any job and be equally compensated.
We fought to provide food assistance for poor Americans. We fought to provide health care for millions of men, women and children too poor to afford insurance.
And who were we fighting? Conservatives. It's hard as we fought for the most powerless and vulnerable of Americans. Conservatives fought just as hard against them and for the wealthy.
Conservatives lost these fights, but have not given up their struggle. They wage a relentless campaign to take away a woman's right to choice. They seek to suppress minority voting through onerous laws, gerrymandering and intimidation. They are trying to remove 4 million people from the food stamp rolls. These include the elderly and disabled, many of them veterans and children. They want to stop the implementation of the Affordable Care Act. Their answer to the uninsured sick: "Let them die," which sums up their feelings for the poor.
The above are just a few reasons why I choose to be a liberal and why I can't be a conservative.
