Mah Jongg tournament is Oct. 6 in Centralia

The first Jolly Jokers & Funky Flowers Mah Jongg Tournament will be held Oct. 6 at the Moose Family Center 1219, 1834 S. Poplar St. in Centralia.

Mah Jongg is a table game that consists of 152 small tiles stamped with Chinese characters and symbols. Each of four players begins with 13 tiles. In turn, players exhange tiles, draw and discard tiles until one player completes a "legal" hand (from the National Mah Jongg League card) using the 14th tile. The winner calls out "May Jongg."

Here's the tournament schedule:

10-10:30 a.m. Registration, continental breakfast, orientation

10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Two rounds of four games each round

12:30-1:15 p.m. Lunch break

1:15-3:15 p.m. Two rounds of four games each

Entry fee of $40 includes continental breakfast and lunch. First prize is $200; second is $100; third is $50.

The tournament is a fundraiser for the Moose Family Center. Proceeds from an afghan raffle and 50/50 will go to the Women of the Moose for renovaion of Mooseheart's School.

A bagpiper will welcome players from 10 to 10:20 p.m.
