O'Fallon High School senior defensive end Dewayne Hendrix picked up another honor Thursday when he was invited to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
"A lot of my friends are playing in it, so it will be good to go down there and play," said Hendrix, a 6-foot-5, 265-pound senior.
The game features some of the top seniors in the country and will be played at noon Jan. 4, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
"That's some pretty elusive company," O'Fallon coach Brandon Joggerst said. "It's a great honor for him and it will be a nice week for him. The best thing about him is he continues to work hard every day in practice and tried to improve upon what he did the week before."
Among the schools considered near the top of Hendrix's recruiting list are Missouri, Tennessee, Florida, USC, Ohio State and Illinois. He plans to take in the Tennessee-Georgia game in October, but has not made a verbal commitment.
Hendrix had three sacks and two forced fumbles last Saturday in a 10-6 win over East St. Louis. He has 27 tackles and six sacks through four games.
Ninety players are selected in an East vs. West matchup and is broadcast live on NBC. The crowd last season was 40,133.
