Police arrest suspect after chase from Belleville to East St. Louis

A suspect is in custody after an overnight police chase that started in Belleville and ended with a crash in East St. Louis at about 3 a.m.

Officers from Belleville, the Illinois State Police and the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department were involved in the pursuit of a white Dodge Dakota pickup truck.

They chased the suspect to the intersection of 12th Street and Bond Avenue, where he crashed into a utility pole.

The driver got out and tried to run but was caught by police a short distance away.

The suspect has not yet been identified by police, and they have not indicated why they initially began to pursue the suspect.
