Alton High School junior Tori Hays tamed Clinton Hills Golf Course on Tuesday, but needed a little help to tame the Edwardsville Edwardsville Tigers.
Hays fired a 4-over over par 75 to take medalist honors and two Redbirds teammates added rounds in the 80's as Alton ended the Tigers title reign with a four stroke win at the Southwestern Conference Golf Tournament.
Junior Natalie Long added an 86 while Alton teammate Courtney Hachmann chipped in with an 88 for the Redbirds who finished with a team score of 351.
In taking the individual title, Hays posted a three stroke win over Edwardsville senior Emilee Flaugher who finished with a 7-over par 78.
Hays and Flaugher were the only two players to break 80 on Tuesday.
Long placed third with her 86, while Hachmann placed fourth in the individual competition with an 88. Edwardsville's Sam Doak rounded out the top five players with 90. Edwardsville's team score was rounded out by Ashlea Hearn with a 91, while Eryn Coppersmith added a 96 for the Tigers.
O'Fallon placed a disappointing third with a score of 379, while Belleville East (406) and Belleville West (418) rounded out the top five schools.
Sophie Laing paced O'Fallon with a 93, while Brooke Callan and Natalie Fox added rounds of 97.
Emily Furlow had 97 for fourth place Belleville East and Colette Thro added 98. Mikaela Hickey led the way for Belleville West with a 94.
