News-DemocratOctober 2, 2013

For the second time in less than a month a counterfeit bill has been passed at a Millstadt business, police said Wednesday.

Someone passed a phony $100 bill Sept. 24 at the Circle K convenience store at the intersection of West Washington And North Jefferson streets, according to police. The clerk reportedly did not realize the money was fake until after the customer had left.

On Sept. 6 someone passed a counterfeit $10 bill at the Casey's General Store at 313 E. Washington St. in Millstadt. In that case the clerk also did not realize the bill was phony until after the customer that passed it had left.

Police said they passed both cases on the Secret Service which handles cases of counterfeit U.S. currency.
