Charges filed for punch-and-run cell phone theft at MetroLink station

A 21-year-old East St. Louis man was charged with two felonies after a robbery at the Fairview Heights MetroLink station.

Roderick A. Roberson Jr. was charged Monday with one count of robbery and one count of theft. Charges state he robbed a victim in June. The victim said he was approached by a suspect who asked to use his phone to place a call, Fairview Heights police said.

The victim let the suspect use the phone and followed him closely. Roberson punched the victim and ran away with the phone, police said.

Roberson's bond was set at $50,000.
