Belleville East High School captured second place Saturday in the largest class of competition at the 43rd annual Illini Marching Bands Championship in Champaign.

Belleville East also won for outstanding percussion against six other high schools competing in Class 6A, comprised of the largest schools in the competition. More than 50 high school marching bands competed throughout the day at Memorial Stadium in the University of Illinois.

The Marching Lancers' performance "Transformations" was under the direction of Belleville East Director Mark Tessereau and Assistant Director Timothy Hassall. Belleville East was the smallest school to compete in Class 6A yet had the largest band with more than 200 performers.

First place in Class 6A went to Waubonsie Valley in Aurora. Collinsville High School competed against seven other high schools in the Class 5A competition. Collinsville did not place in the top three on Saturday.
