Police nab third suspect in Fairview Heights robbery

Fairview Heights police have arrested the third person suspected in a robbery at Moody Park.

According to police reports, Darrell Gilkey, 17, of 2327 Frank Scott Parkway in Belleville was charged with robbery and is being held on $30,000 bail. They other two suspects are juveniles, so their names haven't been released. They are also in custody.

On Friday, the Fairview Heights Police Department received a 911 call reporting a fight at Moody Park. An officer responding to the area was flagged down by a 15-year-old juvenile, who said he was the victim of a robbery.

The victim told police three individuals approached him in the park and started a fight with him, punching him and kicking him while demanding that he surrender his cellphone. He said he knew the suspects and provided police with their descriptions and nicknames.

Several hours later, an officer conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of St. Clair Avenue and Illinois 157. The vehicle, which was pulled over for minor traffic violations, was found to contain two of the three suspects in the robbery.
