The Southwestern Illinois College Board of Trustees on Wednesday unanimously approved a two-year extension of school President Georgia Costello's contract.
"I love every day that I come to work," Costello said of the reason she wanted to continue at the community college. "I love everything about this place from the people I work with to the people who go to school here. I love the challenge of it."
Costello said she took a lot of pride in trying to help people improve themselves.
"This school plays an important role in trying to help our students prepare themselves for life and to get a good job to support their family," Costello said.
The new deal runs through June 30, 2016. It pays the same $168,405 Costello makes in the last year of the previous deal, which was to expire July 1, including 2.75-percent raise for fiscal year 2014 previously approved for all district administrators, according to SWIC spokesman Mike Fleming.
Appointed to the job in 2008, this is the third time Costello's contract has been extended. Prior to becoming SWIC president she was a teacher, dean and principal in Belleville School District 118. After that, she worked for five years as assistant superintendent in the St. Clair County Regional Office of Education.
