Calling all hunters and sportsmen and women -- the Mississippi Valley Duck Hunters (MVDH) will host its annual Duck and Goose Call Auction and extravaganza at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 at the Quail Club, 8303 Concordia Road in Belleville.
The event is free and open to the public. It features custom calls, sporting equipment and collectibles donated by local and nationally-recognized call makers. In addition to calls, and a live auction, the program will feature raffles, guns, decoys, artwork and prints, and a free lunch.
"This is our main fundraiser and all the proceeds go to local youth, habitat and waterfowl projects," says Kip Schneider, MVDH President. "We have a great selection of items from our talented members and local supporters. Southern Illinois features many of the top call makers in the country."
Featured calls include a signature one-of-a-kind trumpet yelper turkey call by nationally acclaimed Don Bald and Bald's Calls of Lebanon. Bald is also donating a rare custom Swan Call that should attract a lot of interest. Other custom calls include offerings from Tim Grounds of Johnston City, Tiffany "Ed" Roseberry from Murphysboro, Ken Hubbard from Edwardsville, Scott Huschle from Freeburg, Bob Bitters from Belleville, Mic Middleton of Baldwin; Jerry Rasch of Mascoutah, and more arriving daily.
No MVDH call auction would be complete without some calls from the late, legendary Ken Martin. Two pristine examples from Martin, marked Idaho Falls and Lemont, will be available.
Also featured will be a one-of-a-kind morel antler carving scene in a custom display case by Jeff Peck of Belleville; an antler morel carving by Gerry Brenner of Smithton; a YETI cooler with the Dekalb logo donated by Monsanto, plus items donated by Winchester, Purina, Silver Creek Ducks Unlimited, Silver Creek Quail Forever, Whitetails Unlimited and Curt Smith Outdoors.
Another attraction is an assortment of quality habitat and wildlife structures, including ceder wood duck boxes, goose nest boxes, cedar bluebird boxes from Dave Koderhandt, and deer food plot mix by Whitetails Unlimited.
Auctioneer Steve Siebert will conduct the live auction.
"There's really something for everybody," Kip Schnieder said. "We're hoping for another big crowd to help MVDH celebrate the fall hunting season."
