A Columbia man has pleaded guilty in federal court for failing to register as a sex offender.

Devereaux L. Davis, 36, pleaded guilty Thursday in the federal court in East St. Louis, according to Stephen R. Wigginton, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois. Davis has been scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 22. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

The charges stem from a 2009 violation when Davis moved to Missouri from Illinois and failed to register as a sex offender within three days of the move. He had been previously convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in September 2005 in Monroe County.

Davis fled the bi-state area between 2010 and March 2013. He returned to Missouri and was arrested in St. Louis in April on a felony warrant out of Granite City.
