Space restrictions prevent me from addressing all the misinformation (and there is a lot) from our progressive writers, but I am compelled to address some of the key myths that get repeated on this page.
From before the Civil War it was the Democrats who consistently opposed civil rights for minorities. It was FDR who segregated certain federal agencies. Lyndon Johnson could not muster enough votes from his own party to pass civil rights legislation. It was the votes of conservative Republicans that made it happen.
As to the budget surplus that former President Clinton wants to brag about, it happened only because there was a fiscally conservative Congress that reined in his appetite to tax and spend. And as to the economic growth from the Clinton era, people forget there was a tech boom going on at the time. By contrast, President Obama's green revolution has not even proven to be shovel ready.
And how is it that all these recent technological advances renders the wisdom of the ages invalid? Our country was born during the Industrial Revolution when Benjamin Franklin determined lightning was electricity and advocated building boats of iron. Solomon was right, there is nothing new under the sun.
It is appropriate conservatives identify themselves with the original Tea Party. They had no Internet or cell phones but they did have direct experience dealing with despots and drafted a Constitution to be a vanguard against the erosion of civil liberties.
