News-DemocratOctober 19, 2013

A 58-year-old Caseyville man was found dead laying on the ground near where he ran his car into a ravine at Black Lane and the Interstate 255 overpass on Saturday.

Allen Gerard, of the 100 block of Cherokee in Caseyville, was the victim, Caseyville Police Chief Jose Alvarez said.

Alvarez said Gerard's doctor told police he had extensive medical issues, which police believe led to his death, Alvarez said.

Alvarez said Gerard's body was discovered at 4:16 a.m.

He ran his car, a 1998 Saturn station wagon, into a ravine and managed to climb back up to the roadway where he collapsed, Alvarez said. The accident scene is near the Harding Ditch.
