3 charged in $50,000 jewelry theft in Collinsville

Three people were charged Monday in connection with the theft of more than $50,000 in jewelry stolen during Collinsville burglaries.

The following individuals were charged in Madison County Circuit Court with felony charges of residential burglary: Dylan R. Bird, 20, of 7 Jeri Lynn Lane in Collinsville; Jessica E. McCarty, 19, of 1210 W. Tower St. in Vandalia; and Joshua M. Cooley, 24, of St. Louis.

About $50,000 in jewelry and $300 in cash was reported stolen Thursday evening from a home in the first block of Lakeview Acres Drive, according Madison County Sheriff's Capt. T. Mike Dixon.

After an investigation the three suspects were linked to the burglary. About half of the stolen jewelry was recovered.

Bird and McCarty also were linked to a second theft reported Saturday at a home in the 200 block of Louise Drive in Collinsville. Sterling silver flatware, a camera, collectible knife and other items were taken from the home. Bird and McCarty were associates of the victims and were at the home prior to the theft, police reports state. They were charged with additional felony theft offenses.

Bail for each defendant was set at $50,000.

Police continue to search for Cooley and ask anyone with information about his whereabouts to call the Madison County Sheriff's Office at 618-692-4433, 618-692-0871 or the anonymous tip line at 618-296-3000.
