Memorial Hospital recognized for inpatient service

News-DemocratOctober 23, 2013

Memorial Hospital in Belleville has been selected as one of the nation's 100 best hospitals for inpatient procedures.

Healthgrades, a Denver-based national independent health care rating service, has selected the metro-east hospital for the Emergency Medicine Excellence Award among 4,500 U.S. hospitals based on cardiology, pulmonary, critical care, gastrointestinal and emergency medicine. This is the second consecutive year that the Belleville hospital has achieved this rank.

Hospital spokeswoman Anne Thomure said the recent ratings demonstrates the level of quality patients can expect at Memorial.

"We are really focused on quality and we deliver quality of care on a consistent basis," Thomure said. "It's just something that is ongoing and top of mind for us. We are delivering quality patient care. We do the right thing for patients at the right time."

Healthgrades collects its data from third parties and publishes its findings online. Patients can learn more about individual hospital's and physician's performance and track records.

Memorial has ranked among the top 10 percent in nation for cardiology services and has earned the Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Heart Failure for the past two years from Healthgrades. The hospital has also been given the Healthgrades Pulmonary Excellence Award for three consecutive years, ranked among the top 10 percent in the nation for overall pulmonary services, is the Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Pneumonia and Five-Star Recipient for Treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease for the past four years.

"We are extremely pleased with these ratings," said Memorial Hospital President and Chief Executive Officer Mark Turner, in a released statement. "We know consumers have a choice of where to go for their health care services. We also know that health care consumers are savvy to resources, like Healthgrades, available to help them make those decisions."
