A 38-year-old East St. Louis man has been charged with nine counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, one count of criminal sexual abuse and one count of solicitation of a child for sexual acts.

Marlon Coleman, of the 1800 block of Wolford Street allegedly had been assaulting his three stepdaughters since 2012. And most recently he had inappropriate conduct with a cousin of theirs, police said.

The cousin is 14. The daughters are 11, 13, and 14 years old.

East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Floore said on "Oct. 14, a lady called the Police Department and said she believed her husband had been molesting three of her children."

Floore said it was reported that one of her children's cousins told her mother that the husband said something inappropriate to her.

The mother of the three victims was alerted about what her husband allegedly had done.

"When the mother asked her daughters whether her husband had done and said anything inappropriate to him, they said he had done inappropriate things and said inappropriate things," Floore said.

Two of the girls said he fondled them and a third one said he had been having sex with her, police said.

The inappropriate behavior allegedly had been going on since 2012, when the family lived in Cahokia.

East St. Louis Detective Sgt. Gilda Johnson investigated the case along with Cahokia Detective Joe Seipp. A St. Clair County Judge set bail for Coleman at $2 million.

Coleman turned himself in to the East St. Louis Police Department on Oct. 22. He is currently in the St. Clair County Jail.
