Police solve Collinsville convenience store robbery

News-DemocratOctober 28, 2013

Three Madison County residents have been charged in relation to a 2011 armed robbery at a Collinsville convenience store.

Charged with felony counts of armed robbery and aggravated armed robbery are:

* Jacob R. Niemeier, 21, of 235 Wild Horse Crossing in Collinsville

* Brendan J. Toebe, 25, of 1 Fieldcrest Drive in Collinsville

* Samantha R. Rogers, 25, of 3225 VFW Lane in Collinsville

According to Capt. T. Mike Dixon of the Madison County Sheriff's Department, two men robbed the Trading Post convenience store at 8907 Collinsville Road.

The clerk told deputies that two masked men came into the store and demanded money. One of the men had what appeared to be a handgun. The clerk turned over cash and the men left the store on foot, running east.

Both men were wearing gray hoodies and blue jeans and had bandanas covering their faces. One of the suspects also had a two tone blue "Billabong" jacket tied around his waist. The jacket and a black bandana were later recovered in a dumpster near Kreitner Elementary School, which is located just north of the Trading Post. The items were examined by the Illinois State Police Crime Lab and forensic evidence was located.

On Oct. 18 the Madison County Sheriff's Office received information from an anonymous source that Niemeier and Rogers were involved in the 2011 robbery. Investigators were able to develop corroborating evidence, linking all three defendants to the robbery.

Investigators detained Niemeier Wednesday afternoon. Toebe and Rogers were located and detained Thursday. All three defendants were held in the Madison County Jail on $100,000 bail.
