The father driving in a fatal crash last Friday near Litchfield was charged in connection with driving under the influence, according to Illinois State Police.

Alfredo McGee, 31, of East St. Louis, was charged with DUI in connection with the car accident Oct. 25 in the northbound lane of Interstate 55.

McGee's sons, Alfredo McGee Jr., 8, Armondo McGee, 2, and Alea Shannon, 27, died in the crash. Alfredo was a third-grade student at Signal Hill School in Belleville.

They were killed when a cargo van rear ended a stalled or slow-moving 2000 Impala sedan driven by McGee about 5:20 a.m.

The 2002 Ford Van was driven by Senad Hodzic, 26, of St. Louis. He was not seriously injured.

Sisters Annastashia, 6, and Alicea McGee, 5, also were injured in the crash.

McGee was hospitalized after the crash, but has been released. He was not in police custody Friday due to his injuries.
