No comparison

This is in response to the letter Oct. 18 from Matt Schrimpf, president of Hartford Wood River Refinery Terminal, criticizing ethanol.

As a corn farmer I encourage your readers to consider the facts. There is no chemical similarities between MBTE and Ethanol 15.

MBTE was removed from the market because it is a potential carcinogen; E 15 is biodegradable.

MBTE is a very volatile chemical at room temperature; E 15 is stable.

I understand his intent was to address the issue of older underground fuel tanks at gas stations and as a volunteer director on the Illinois Corn Marketing Board I would be willing to help address this issue.
