Promising progress at District 201

November 3, 2013

After a few years of declining state test scores, it's encouraging to see the results at Belleville East and West trend upward.

Students at both high schools made significant improvements in reading, which is vital to all learning. District 201 also made strides in closing the achievement gap between white and minority students.

Much credit goes to Superintendent Jeff Dosier, who has set expectations high for all students. He refuses to let race and low-income be an often-used excuse in education for poor acheivement results.

Dosier has successfully involved students, teachers and community members in improving the schools' learning environment. District 201 still has a long way to go in improving scores, but the community can be proud of this progress.

Now the district must build on this success.
