Police are asking residents to help in the search for a man who robbed the MotoMart on Illinois 159 in Fairview Heights early Saturday morning.

The suspect, a black male approximately 5-foot-7 with a thin build, is believed to be 19-25 years old, according to Fairview Heights Police Department Lt. Steve Evans.

Police received a 9-1-1 call from an employee of the MotoMart location at 4:30 a.m. Saturday. The caller said a suspect with a gun had held up the store at 6114 N. Illinois St.

The clerk and a customer in the store told police the gunman ordered them to the ground and left through the shop's east entrance.

Police did not say in which direction the suspect headed or if the clerk and customer saw him get into a vehicle. But the robber got away with about $200 in cash.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call the Fairview Heights Police Department at 489-2100.
