Kenneth and Eleanore (Kalert) Ahlers were married on October 26, 1963 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Freeburg, IL. Ken & Ellie reside in Belleville, IL. They have 2 children: Tina (Lynn) Nerland of Springfield, IL and Kent (Lisa) Alhers of Freeburg, IL. They have 8 grandchildren.

After graduating high school, Kenny served in the United States Army. After service to his country he continued service to his community for 17 years as owner and operator of Ken’s 66 Service Station in Belleville, IL. He later sold his business and joined Illinois Distributing where he remained until his retirement 22 years later.

Ellie received her registered nursing degree from Saint John’s School of Nursing in Springfield, IL and later received a Bachelor of Science in Health Arts from the College of Saint Francis in Joliet, IL. Ellie’s nursing career spanned 42 years in various areas of nursing and administration. She worked in the hospital and homehealth setting and was an instructor at Belleville Area College. After 21 years of management she retired from the Green-Waltman Eye Institute.

Kenny and Ellie’s wonderful celebration of 50 years of marriage began as a trip with friends to Saint Maarten; progressed to a family vacation with children and grandchildren in Orlando, FL; continued with a private mass held by Ellie’s cousin (Father David Kalert OMI) at Saint Henry’s Seminary; and culminated with brunch for the family.
