All-City team trophies to be awarded at football banquet

The 69th annual Rotary football banquet, honoring the 2013 teams from Belleville East, Althoff Catholic and Belleville West high schools, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Fischer's Restaurant.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in advane at Bruce Meyer Printing, 117 West Main St. in Belleville or at the door.

The 26 members of the Belleville News-Democrat's 2013 All-City team will be awarded trophies at the event, and there will be awards for outstanding defensive and offensive players from each school.

The guest speaker is Justin Harrison, defensive backs and strength and conditioning coach at Lindenwood University-Belleville.

Harrison joined the Lynx after serving three years as sssistant strength and conditioning coach and assistant defensive backs coach at University of Illinois.

Harrison grew up in Belleville and attended Signal Hill Elementary. After elementary school, the Harrison family relocated to Bloomington, where he lettered in three sports at Bloomington High School. Harrison earned All-State honors at safety, linebacker and fullback.

He was a four-year starter at Illinois, earning freshman All-American and All-Big Ten honors. As a senior, Harrison was a team captain, leading the Fighting Illini to the 2008 Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. That same year, he was selected as an undrafted free agent went to both the Cleveland Browns and the New Orleans Saints.

Harrison started his coaching career as secondary coach at Illinois Wesleyan University in 2008.

He coached three years with the Fighting Illini, including coaching in both the 2010 Texas Bowl and 2011 Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl.
