That's politics in Caseyville Township

November 5, 2013

What is it with Caseyville Township? On the surface it looks like many other areas of the metro-east. Yet historically it has been an area of upheaval; very political and often chaotic.

Sometimes the political maneuvering also benefits the public. It's why the taxpayers now know about thousands of dollars Supervisor Bruce Canty spent on candy, dinners and gift cards.

The spending stopped after new Trustee Rick Donovan questioned the expenditures. Two trustees said they thought they were approving the purchase of office supplies. If that's so, shame of them for not paying close enough attention to the receipts.

Canty thinks Donovan is trying to force him out of office so someone else can get the plum supervisor position. Perhaps. Whatever Donovan's motivation, at least this waste has ended.
