Red Wings place Eaves on waivers

Detroit, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - The Detroit Red Wings have placed forward Patrick Eaves on waivers.

The move was made Thursday in preparation to clear cap space for the return of defenseman Jonathan Ericsson, who has been out injured for nearly a month.

Eaves, 29, has failed to record a point in only three appearances this season. He played in 34 games last season, totaling just two goals and eight points.

The nine-year veteran will be sent to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League if he clears by noon on Friday.
