St. Clair County receives $3.8M in housing aid

St. Clair County communities and housing agencies will receive more than $3.8 million in federal funds, according to U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin.

Durbin, a Democrat of Illinois, said in a news release the grant funding will go to two programs administered by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.

"This federal funding will give local development agencies in St. Clair County the ability to offer affordable housing to the people in their community who need it the most," Durbin said.

The funding includes more than $3.2 million to local governments through the Community Development Block Grants program. The programs give annual grants to state and local governments to provide housing and economic opportunities principally for low and moderate income families.

St. Clair County also will receive more than $600,000 through the HOME program, which intends to expand affordable housing to low and very-low income families.
