On Lincoln's mind: His correspondence on the eve of the speech

Lincoln meets with cabinet members in this diorama display inside the Lincoln Presidential Museum in Springfield. The man at left is real, a re-enactor dressed in period attire to explain what's going on politically at the time. This room was copied in extreme detail by filmmaker Steven Spielberg's crew - who went to Springfield - for his recent film "Lincoln".

To mark the 150th anniversary of the Gettyburg Address, the Springfield Journal-Register has compiled a set of 10 letters written to or by Abraham Lincoln in the days leading up to his immortal speech.
