Crews open 2 ramps at Mississippi River bridge worksite

News-DemocratNovember 15, 2013

The new Mississippi River bridge project is moving closer to completion as the ramp from southbound Interstate 55 to eastbound Interstate 64/northbound Illinois 3 opened Friday.

The ramp from westbound Interstate 64 to northbound Interstate 55 is also open to all traffic.

The $704 million Mississippi River Bridge Project includes the new interchange at Interstate 55-70 and Interstate 64, which is one of 32 individual projects associated with the bridge construction. The bridge was completed in July when final steel beam of the new Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge was bolted into place.

The entire project is expected to be completed in early 2014.
