Our judicial can of worms

November 17, 2013

The article in the BND about ex-Judge Michael Cook and all the worms involved is truly amazing to me. Here we go again. McGilvery and former (retired) Judge Michael O'Malley's daughter Katherine O'Malley gets a free pass from Chief Judge John Baricevic, who should have recused himself from her case by virtue of friendship with her father. Then here comes C.J. Baricevic, an attorney related to Chief Judge John Baricevic trying cases in St. Clair County, especially criminal cases that could be construed as a conflict of interest with Circuit Judge Robert Haida being involved as both a former prosecutor and now a judge -- definitely a "can of worms" all the way around and they should all recuse themselves to avoid any future impropriety.
