The Central Illinois Chapter of the American Red Cross mobilizing teams of volunteers Sunday to help those affected by tornadoes and severe storms.

If you would like to help, the Red Cross said financial donations are the best way to help those who have been affected. Call 1-800-RED CROSS or visit to make a donation. Tell them you want your donation to go to the central Illinois tornado response.

In addition, the Horsemen's Council of Illinois will help horse owners in need of assistance. The council will act as a clearinghouse to help those in need get in contact with those willing to provide assistance.

For disaster assistance, call the HCI office on weekdays at 217-529-6503. For evening or weekend assistance, help is available in: southern Illinois at 618-967-6443; central Illinois at 217-840-9473; and northern Illinois at 708-772-2763.
