A better way to remove a tick

November 19, 2013

I found the article Sunday concerning the proper way to remove a tick from one's body a little disheartening. "Very carefully" is correct, but using tweezers to grab a tick on your body can be difficult -- especially if the tick is in a private or a sensitive area.

I have seen ticks removed with tweezers and even using lighted matches that have been blown out and put near the tick to make it back out of the body part. These methods may work sometimes but risk harm to the person. Using a pair of tweezers is risky business and may result in part of the tick left in the wound.

A much more effective way (I have used this method and it has never failed) is to use a piece of cotton dipped in Dawn liquid soap. Put this onto the tick and completely cover the tick with the Dawn. This action suffocates the tick and it will back out of the area to survive. This is by far the most effective way, the easiest way and the safest way to remove a tick from your body.
