Collinsville City Council approves new subdivision

News-DemocratNovember 25, 2013

— The city's first new residential subdivision in at least six years is on its way.

The City Council approved developer Chris Geiler's preliminary plat for a 22-lot single-family subdivision that will be called California Timbers, to be located on 10 acres off California Street between Eileen and Alice avenues.

The council voted unanimously in favor of the plat at its Monday meeting. Economic development director Mitch Bair said it is the first residential subdivision he has handled in six years.

It was first proposed and approved in 2005, but the developer at the time did not pursue the project and the property was eventually foreclosed. Geiler purchased the property and resubmitted the proposal.

Bair told the council that California Timbers will be required to preserve existing vegetation as much as is practical and to replace anything that has been taken down.

The council also approved the contract for new Police Chief Stephen Evans, who will replace Chief Eric Van Hook as of Nov. 27. Evans' salary will be $96,600 a year.
