Edwardsville donor makes a splash for school district

EDWARDSVILLE - District 7 is getting an early Christmas present: a brand new aquatic center.

More than $5 million was pledged to the district to build an aquatic center on the grounds of the District 7 sports complex, Edwardsville Superintendent Ed Hightower said Tuesday.

An Edwardsville native will provide a $4 million donation, and the EGHM Foundation will fund $1.3 million to complete the project. The aquatic center will include an Olympic-sized swimming pool, Hightower said.

The donor was not identified by the district. The EGHM Foundation is a nonprofit fundraising organization that solicits funding for District 7 schools. Recently the foundation helped fund installation of smartboard-style computerized whiteboards in every classroom.

Hightower said that additional details about the project will be announced Monday.
