— Police are investigating the stabbing death of a 25-year-old woman found in her apartment Saturday.

A person of interest has been identified but not yet found, Police Chief Michael Floore reported.

The victim, whose name was not released, had children but they were not at the apartment. Floore said investigators are trying to determine where the children are.

Cortez Slack, chief of security for the East St. Louis Housing Authority, said the woman's body was found in Gompers Building 34.

This is the 19th homicide recorded in East St. Louis this year.

Floore said police received a call about the homicide at 8:49 p.m.

Illinois State Police crime scene technicians responded to gather evidence in the apartment.
