Major Case Squad: Belleville man shot, killed

News-DemocratDecember 1, 2013

— The fatal shooting of a Belleville man in the 400 Block of North 40th Street is under investigation by the Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis.

John D. Fath, Sr., 53, died of apparent gunshot wounds Saturday night, according to Belleville Police Lt. Matt Eiskant, deputy commander of the Major Case Squad.

Fath was taken to St. Louis University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Eiskant said a person of interest is in custody but declined to release any information about the person because an investigation is ongoing and no charges have yet been filed.

The shooting occurred about 11 p.m. Saturday.

"This was not a random act," Eiskant said. "It is connected to a person (who resides at the house)."

Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call 234-1216, Ext. 3706.

An autopsy is set for Monday.
