Ex-boyfriend sought in East St. Louis mom's slaying

News DemocratDecember 1, 2013

— Police are looking for an ex-boyfriend in connection with the stabbing death of a 25-year-old east St. Louis mother of two on Saturday.

The victim was identified as Michelle Rowling by East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Floore on Sunday morning. Rowling live in the Gomper Homes complex.

Floore said police want to question the 25-year-old Montrell Cooper in connection with the homicide.

Cooper was last seen driving a 2008 Black Chevrolet Tahoe with Illinois license plate number R583531.

"In 2012, the suspect stabbed her in the neck and was arrested and sent to jail," Floore said.

Anyone with any information on Cooper's whereabouts is urged to call East St. Louis Police at 482-6700, Illinois State police at 346-3990 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800 371-TIPS (8477).

Cooper was released from prison in 2012 after serving a year in jail for stabbing Rowling.

In August, Cooper was arrested again for assaulting her, Floore said.

Rowling's killing is the 19th in East St. Louis this year, police said.
