BASEBALL

CHRISTMAS CAMP -- FAC Sports will hold two Christmas baseball camps at the Southwestern Illinois College intramural gym in Belleville to help players in grades 1-12 prepare for the upcoming season. A hitting camp is 9-11:30 a.m. Dec. 26-28 and focuses on all fundamentals of hitting; Fee: $75. A pitchers-catchers-fielders camp is 12:30-2 p.m. Dec. 26-28; Fee: $50. O'FALLON BLAZE -- O'Fallon Blaze is looking for current or former college players for a new team in the Mon-Clair Baseball League, but those with varsity high school experience also can try out. Matt Cantonwine is the general manager and coach; other coaches are Jon Kessler of Washington University and Bryan Stauder of McKendree. GRIZZLIES HOLIDAY CLINIC -- Gateway Grizzlies Baseball Academy in Sauget holding its annual Holiday Pitching & Hitting Clinic for players 8-older Jan. 2-3, 2014. Clinic covers hitting and pitching fundamentals and each player will participate for two hours each day. Instructors are Mike Breyman and Richard Barrett. Fee: $60 per player. I-70 BASEBALL COACHES CLINIC -- 11th annual I-70 Coaches Clinic set for Jan. 20, 2014 at Greenville High School featuring San Diego Padres Class AAA manager Pat Murphy, Kentucky coach Gary Henderson, former SIU Carbondale and Illinois coach Richard "Itchy" Jones and Prosper (Texas) High coach Rick Carpenter, the father of St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter. Fee: $50 per single coach ($60 at the door), $90 for two coaches ($110 at the door), $130 for three coaches ($160 at the door) and a staff rate of $175 for four to seven coaches ($220 at the door). FREEBURG MACHINE PITCH -- A 2014 Select Baseball League is forming for eight machine-pitch teams at Freeburg Sports Complex. REFEREE CLINICS -- Southern Illinois Referee Association is offering USSF referee entry level and recertification clinics Dec. 14-15 at the Granite City campus of Southwestern Illinois College, 4950 Maryville Road, in Granite City. Individuals for the entry level must attend class both days. Entry-level classes are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. Participants must attend both days. FAMILY SPORTSPLEX -- Indoor soccer has returned to the Family Sportsplex in Belleville with infield turf and no boards. A Pee-Wee Indoor program for boys and girls ages 4-5 will be held Dec. 7, Dec. 14, Jan. 4, 11, 18 and 25 under direction of BFC Soccer Club Director of Coaching and McKendree University assistant women's coach Drew Crawford. BLUFF CITY --Bluff City 16-under and 10-under select fastpitch teams are looking for players. The 16-under team is seeking two to four players; catcher, pitcher and outfield are particular needs.
