Red Sox add Edward Mujica to their relief corps

Yahoo Sports reports that the Boston Red Sox have signed former St. Louis Cardinals reliever Edward Mujica to a two-year contract.

It seems that it worked out to Mujica's benefit that Redbirds manager Mike Matheny didn't use him much at all in the post season. Otherwise the Red Sox might have noticed how poorly he pitched during the last two months of the 2013 season and they might have been less inclined to lay out $9.5 million for his services.

The Cardinals seemingly had no interest in re-signing Mujica, who pitched fantastically for 3/4 of the season after being pressed into duty as team closer following the injury of Jason Motte in spring training.
