A 75-year-old Belleville man was seriously injured Friday afternoon in a one-vehicle crash in Clinton County.

Louis A. Billhartz was driving a Ford F-250 pick-up truck at 3:23 p.m. east on Interstate 64 on the Silver Creek overpass, near mile marker 34. He was in the right lane and as he crossed the overpass, the truck lost traction on the snow or ice covered bridge and began to slide and spin, according to Illinois State Police.

The truck went off the road, to the south, and struck a guardrail. The truck then overturned and rolled down the shoulder embankment.

Billhartz was wearing his seatbelt, but he was partially ejected and seriously injured, police said.

He initially was taken via ambulance to St. Joseph's Hospital in Breese. Then, he was airlifted via helicopter to St. Louis University Hospital.

He was in serious, but stable condition, police said.
