Two St. Louis Cardinals World Series teams -- from 2013 and 1964 -- will be honored at the 56th Annual St. Louis Baseball Writers Dinner Sunday, Jan. 19 at the Renaissance St. Louis Grand Hotel downtown.
The event, held for decades at the Millennium Hotel, is moving to the Renaissance with the imminent closure of the Millennium.
On hand will be numerous players from two Fall Classic clubs for the Cardinals -- the '64 team that beat the New York Yankees, and the 2013 club that fell short this fall against Boston.
Among those expected to attend from the 1964 team: Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Bob Uecker, Tim McCarver, Mike Shannon, Dick Groat, Jerry Buchek and Phil Gagliano.
Invited from the 2013 team: Adam Wainwright, Matt Carpenter, Yadier Molina, Allen Craig, Michael Wacha, Trevor Rosenthal, Matt Holliday and Shelby Miller.
In addition, retiring Redbirds pitcher Chris Carpenter will be honored for his years of service to the Cardinals, and Jason Motte will receive the Darryl Kile Award, given in honor of the late Cardinals pitcher.
Tickets are $150 each or $175 if customers want to purchase a three-day pass to the Cardinals Winter Warm-Up, which is held the weekend of the dinner.
Proceeds from the dinner go to journalism scholarships and internships at the University of Missouri and St. Louis University, and the Press Club of Metropolitan St. Louis.
