Alton attorney John Simmons has purchased an Alton-based printed shopper Today's AdVantage and has hired longtime executives from the Alton Telegraph.
Simmons, chairman of The Simmons Firm and owner Alton Steel Inc., bought the shopper from Sharon McRoy and Jim Seibold. McRoy and Seibold founded the Today's AdVantage in 1986.
The new staff includes former Telegraph Executive Editor Dan Brannan, former Telegraph advertising Director Johnny Aguirre, former Telegraph advertising representative Pat Taulbee and former Telegraph circulation Director Barbara Horstman. Eric McRoy, who has served as the shopper's general manager, will be the vice president under the new ownership.
In a statement released Wednesday, Simmons said the formal transfer of ownership is an exciting moment for him and all involved in the transaction. He declined to comment further about his plans for the newspaper or the terms of the sale.
"It's too early to release all of our plans because they are still being finalized, but we plan to release more information in the near future and look forward to providing quality content to our existing and future readers," Simmons said.
