Missouri State volleyball player Carly Thomas was recognized this week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association with a first-team all-Midwest Region selection.
The senior setter and Althoff High School graduate from Swansea is Missouri State's 15th AVCA all-region performer and just the third to earn the distinction multiple times after an honorable-mention nod in 2011.
The Midwest Region includes schools from Missouri, South Dakota, Kansas, Iowa, Ohio, Colorado, Michigan, West Virginia, Illinois, Montana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Idaho and New Mexico.
Thomas ended her career this fall as one of the most decorated players in MSU volleyball history, joining Mindy Struckhoff and Linette White and two-time all-region choices and Calli Norman and White as the only players to earn first-team all-Missouri Valley Conference honors at least three times.
Thomas leads the MVC and ranks 13th nationally with 11.49 assists per set this season, and is second all-time at Missouri State with 4,708 career assists. The six-time MVC Player of the Week and one-time national player of the week is also 12th all-time at MSU with 1,201 career digs, and has four career triple-doubles and four matches of at least 50 assists and 20 digs.
The Bears finished the season 21-11 overall and 12-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference, reaching the 20-win plateau for the 14th time in the last 15 seasons.
