EDWARDSVILLE — A Madison County jury found a South Roxana man guilty of sexual abuse in 45 minutes of deliberation Thursday.
Harvey Simington, 66, was convicted of one count of predatory criminal sexual abuse of a child, a Class X felony, and one count of aggravated sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.
The victim was a 4-year-old family member. Simington was convicted of repeatedly molesting her for six months in 2011, when she was in his care. She was removed from his home in August 2011 and placed in foster care.
According to the Madison County State's Attorney's office, the girl disclosed to her foster mother in 2012 that she had been abused. South Roxana Police investigated the case, which led to the charges against Simington. The girl remains in foster care.
Simington has been in jail since his arrest in May 2012 in lieu of $250,000 bail. His bail was revoked upon conviction, and he will remain in custody until his sentencing. He faces approximately 30 years in prison.
